A couple weeks ago we had the chance to check out the brand new eatery, Meatball. Meatball is Robert McGee’s (formerly of the now-closed Whole Ox Deli) new spot over on Kapahulu. They serve—what else?!—meatballs with your choice of sauce and, if you like, a starch. There are many, many, many combinations. I know that I learned enough math in high school to figure out exactly how many combinations, but I immediately forgot how to do those sorts of calculations as soon as I filled in the last bubble on that AP Calculus exam.
Shake picked Beef Meatballs with Kim Chee Marinara over Polenta (below). He loves Bob’s polenta. It all went together very nicely, though we thought there could be more kim chee-ness in the sauce. (Bob says they’re working on it; it’s a matter of figuring out how to properly scale up for restaurant-size batches instead of home-size.) I picked Chicken Meatballs with Fresh Tomato Salad over Risotto. I love that there’s a lighter option like that! (OK, maybe with that risotto it isn’t exactly light…but the fresh tomatoes sure make it feel healthy!)
The servings are quite hefty—three ample sized balls and a generous portion of starch. We had trouble finishing our dishes. Partly because we also got a side of Arancini (Crispy Rice Balls) which were quite filling.
We’ll be going back for more balls soon!
